Delivery options

Your group can decide which method to use to return books to the BDS Christchurch office:

  • Hand delivery: You can deliver books to our office during business hours or use the after-hours returns slot.
  • Post: You can use the postal service.
  • Courier: You can use a courier company. BDS sells subsidised CourierPost bags that include the 'Track & Trace' facility (they are tracked in transit).

Packing books

When wrapping books for delivery by post or courier, DO:

  • Wrap books well for protection (using tissue, newsprint, or old wrapping paper, etc) and fill any extra space to prevent movement.
  • Place books with spines facing inward (to avoid pages getting crumpled).
  • Seal package firmly using tape, to ensure books arrive safely. Damage caused by poor packing may incur a charge to your group.

PLEASE DO NOT USE newspaper (the ink comes off on to the books). Don't force too many books into one parcel.

Ordering courier bags from BDS

You can buy subsidised CourierPost courier bags (with Track & Trace facility) from BDS. We sell Lineflow and Foolscap sizes. Use 'Order BDS Products' facility in the Convenor section of the website, or email or phone through your request. You can pay by credit card (on-line only). If paying by internet banking or manual deposit, please identify your payment (with your BDS group number e.g. ASHB 020).

Cost of bags ordered from BDS:

Large   (395 x 440mm, fits 7-12 books)           $57.50 per half-pack    (5 bags)

                                       OR

                                         $115 for a pack             (10 bags)

Foolscap   (275 x 380mm, fits approx. 4 books)   $47.50 for a half-pack  (5 bags)

Too many books for one bag?

Larger groups may need to use a Foolscap courier bag to accommodate any overflow of books (i.e. your set of books doesn't fit into one lineflow bag). You can buy these from BDS. These are smaller bags and are handy for up to 4 extra books.

CourierPost pick-up & delivery instructions

We have an arrangement with the courier company CourierPost. If you use CourierPost bags that are bought from us, your book parcels can:

  • be collected by CourierPost at no extra cost. Phone 0800 268 7437 to arrange collection (not available for rural delivery addresses). To make pick-up even easier, you can register your address as a 'site code', which means you won't have to give CourierPost details of your address each time you arrange a pick-up; OR
  • be left at any New Zealand PostShop.

BDS groups should not be charged extra for courier bags dropped at any PostShop counter, or for bags deemed to be exceeding the weight limit. Should this happen, please contact BDS office to report the incident.

Please keep the top sticker off the courier bag. This is required for track and trace purposes should the parcel go missing.
