An intro to our book groups & membership programmes...

Watch our snazzy 3-minute video to hear from readers why they enjoy the scheme.

The Book Discussion Scheme caters for people who:

- are looking to join an existing BDS book group, or

- are in a book group and want to borrow our resources, or

- are wanting help to form a new book group.

We've been resourcing book groups for more than 40 years, so have plenty of helpful advice to offer if you need it!

How our book groups work

We lend books and discussion notes to participating book groups. Groups make their book selections from our extensive catalogue.

Each month (or every two months on a half programme), we supply groups with one of their selected titles. We provide enough copies to enable members of a group to read the same book at the same time.

We also supply professionally produced discussion notes for each member, to facilitate discussion and a greater understanding of the book.

Each group meets on a regular basis to discuss the book they've read.

Groups:

  • are self-directed

  • can meet anywhere such as in a home, cafĂ©, workplace or library

  • can be as social or as serious as you like!

We have men-only, women-only and mixed groups registered with the scheme.
