  4. Cash payment to BDS (local groups only).

REMEMBER to identify payments - with convenor and/or group name and reason for payment.

Late/lost/damaged/stolen books

Book groups are responsible for the care and security of books and booknotes while on loan from the BDS. To ensure longevity of our books, please keep books clean, dry and out of harm's way. Taking the time to care for books means longevity of books and more reading enjoyment for everyone!

Late books

Convenors are asked to ensure the return of books within ONE WEEK of the scheduled meeting when you discussed it (return date is shown on the "consignment note" that is sent out with the books).

Having 4 or more overdue books delays the issue of the next book set to your group.
Convenors can check which books are overdue by logging in to the Convenor section of the website.

Lost books

A book is deemed lost if not returned to BDS within 3 months of the due date. After that time we will send you an invoice for its replacement.

Note: please do NOT buy replacement books: BDS has access to wholesale prices and different editions do not correspond with our discussion notes.

Damaged books

We appreciate hearing from convenors straightaway if your group receives damaged books. This ensures that your group is not charged for damage you did not do. It's helpful if you let us know the barcode of the damaged book.

Groups aren't charged for general wear and tear, but books that are withdrawn from the scheme because they are deemed to be damaged by your group will be charged for. Note: please do NOT buy replacement books; BDS has access to wholesale prices and different editions do not correspond with our discussion notes.

Stolen books

BDS insurance covers book parcels in transit from BDS to the delivery address. Check your personal contents insurance regarding cover beyond this.

Changes in membership

To receive the correct number of books for your book group, it's important to notify BDS of any changes to the size of your group. Please update the total (number of members) at least 10 working days before your meeting.

(i) Additional members

New members are very welcome to join at any time throughout a group's membership period. You can update this information (about your group's size) by going to 'Update Group's Details' in the Convenor section of this website. Otherwise contact the BDS office.

Payment of a new member's fees is expected within 30 days of them receiving their first book.

Cost:
Full programme:
$7.00 per BOOK for the remaining months of the group's membership.

Half programme:
$11 per BOOK for the remaining months of the group's membership.

Student programme:
$6 per BOOK for the remaining months of the group's membership.

(ii) Member leaves

Please let BDS know the decrease in number of members. You can update this information (about your group's size) by going to 'Update Group's Details' in the Convenor section of this website. Otherwise contact the BDS office.

BDS does not refund an individual's membership fee once a group's membership period has started (i.e. once your group's first set of books has been dispatched). A group is welcome to organise reimbursement between members and ask the new member to reimburse the member who left.

(iii) Recruiting additional members

If you are looking for additional members, make sure your Convenor has ticked the option 'Looking for new members?' under 'Your group's profile' in the Convenor login section of the website. This places a message on the public message board (Join a group) in the 'Get Involved' section.
