Simon Mawer manages a complex and many layered story with a masterful use of language. Many questions were posed, not all answered. It was wonderful. Motueka 001 We were disappointed. Although the writing was very good, it didn't compensate for the disjointed story. Raumati 001 A conflict of interests. Half who read the book enjoyed it. Historical side was interesting and religious aspects provoked discussion. Auckland 166 Readable but not memorable. A good story - confusing but helped greatly by accompanying notes. Whakatane 005

Mixed views amongst our members. One person thoroughly enjoyed it but many struggled to get into it and several didn't finish it. It was moderately interesting but not a must read. |
