Description: When Gwen McKotch is 13 she is identified as having Turner's Syndrome, a condition that will prevent her from maturing normally. Her diagnosis is a catalyst for the unravelling of her family; parents Frank and Paulette, and brothers Billy and Scott. Set in contemporary America and told over a 20 year period, this is an exploration of the human condition: the story of a family tested but ultimately finding peace.

Comments from Groups:

All thought the book was an easy read. We enjoyed the variation within one family. Would recommend for readers who do not want to read a deep book. Hunterville 2

A stimulating read which everyone enjoyed, generating good discussion regarding the importance of open communication and acceptance within the family. Anon

We felt that the "condition" applied to the whole family rather than just the physical condition of Turners Syndrome. Good discussion. Christchurch 10

An easy to read book, but unbelievable, too many problems for one family to have. Christchurch 50

Everyone in our group who read the book really enjoyed it. We all found the characters very interesting, thoroughly developed, and plausible. Overall we loved the book and will seek out other titles by this author. New Plymouth 013

Only one member got the book finished. Others enjoyed what they read, but ran out of time. A good book but not an easy read.

We found much to relate to in this family story of disappointment and thwarted relationships. Very American values - we wished they could all communicate with each other openly. Paulette and Frank had such different attitudes towards Gwen's condition that could have been ameliorated with help.

We all quite enjoyed this book, but the ending was "rushed" and the character development wasn't always good.
