Description:

Entrepreneur Greg Hopkinson would be the first to admit that money can't buy happiness. His business experiences in Russia in the 1990s and the launch of a very successful pet store chain back in New Zealand are testimony to that fact. On the lookout for a different definition of happiness and success, Greg discovers meditation, becomes a monk, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Gritty and down to earth, this is an engaging adventure, a kiwi bloke's quest for inner peace, warts and all.

Much discussion about this book. Most found the Russian part interesting, but a rather long part of the book. Mixed opinions on Greg's personality, and we didn't care for his attitude to women. Most found Part 2 helpful and thought- provoking. |

Some of the group enjoyed this book. Others thought the author was something of a blowhard, and didn't really believe his memories of himself. |

Very mixed reactions! From 0/10 to 7/10. Interesting descriptions of wheeling and dealing in Russia. Less savoury were the descriptions of the author's sex life and drug taking. The spiritual third part of the text was not well received. |

We did enjoy the book and were intrigued by the way Greg's life had evolved. Very topical as Kim Hill interviewed him in March, and also the new 'Animates' store has just opened in Invercargill! |

All but one person enjoyed the book. A number of the group found the middle section in Russia a little dry. Others really enjoyed that part. The discussion flowed well and was reflective and interesting. A variety of opinions on the value of meditation and even what it is.... |
