Most of our group liked the book and found it thought provoking and challenging. Noted the importance of understanding statistics and how journalists report them. We all wondered if the author would still be so positive in March 2026. |

Some people loved facts, others didn't. Most enjoyed some of the content, but made people feel better about the world. |

A wide range of opinions on this book. We discussed how the world has changed since its publication - Covid, Trump, and the climate worsening. Positive and hopeful. Gave a very different world view - made one think. |

A fascinating must read that gives a better way of reflecting on the news and the world. It left us hopeful and informed. We all had a favourite anecdote to share from the great storytelling. |

Engrossing. This hopeful world view was a great antidote to counteract the whole misery that is the regular doomsday news. A lot resonated - the way we perceive that there are many more disasters in the world is maybe because we now, uniquely in history, find out about them with cell phone visuals as well, in a way humans never did before... |

We found the book interesting and it was good to read some positive things about the world. Appreciated the notes, and their reference to other points of view. |

We agreed that this book wasn't exactly a bedtime read but well worth reading nevertheless. We found it enlightening, interesting and challenging and Rosling's explanation of the 'levels' theory put the facts he wrote about into perspective. Being rational rather than irrational about facts is important, especially in today's climate of 'conspiracy theories'. Some felt it should be a 'go to' book in every household. |

Overall a book enjoyed by most of us, well-written and easy to understand, demystifying statistics. We liked the positivity of it but the challenges for the world are still there - scary how predictions are playing out. |

A great book everyone should read! We had a great discussion over this book. Quite a revelation being confronted with such good news about our world. Well presented facts and some good humour. When income and consumerism become categories for dividing humanity, the resultant environmental degradation and economic growth dynamic need to be factored into the optimistic equation. |

We had a great discussion and some of us feel a lot more optimistic about the world. We wondered how things with Covid 19 have changed though. We didn't appreciate being compared to chimpanzees - bordering on arrogance. |
