Very varied response to the book, but lots of thoughtful discussion and comments on topics which are often disregarded or not known. |

We rated 'The Incurable Romantic' at 4/5. It stimulated a lot of discussion about mental health and acceptance ( or not) among the community, as well as warning signs to be aware of among those we know. Many of the chapters outlined conditions of which our group wasn't aware. We felt the book would have been improved with editing out some of the psychology jargon although we all persevered! With little professional success in treating the patients in the book none of us wished to be a therapist. |

Something different!! Most of us thoroughly enjoyed this book - an interesting insight into a psychotherapist's work - maybe we all have moments of madness! |

This book was an interesting read. It covered a number of different problems which people have, and as such produced an animated discussion especially on the "treatment". The chapters were laid out well, and many appreciated the history and specialists in the past being mentioned. |

Whilst most of the group did not especially enjoy the book, finding the non-resolution a little annoying, it generated a lot of discussion which was interesting, and threw up a lot of questions and real life situations. |

This was a very difficult book to read, in fact some of our members were unable to finish it. On the other hand, there were two or three who thought it was superb! One member who works as a Marriage Counsellor, thought it was excellent at portraying the difficulties one may meet in a romantic encounter. |

Some of us who are therapists and/or have done psychology enjoyed this book. Others learned a lot about people. |

A mixed reaction to this book. 3 wouldn't read it, 3 loved it, the remaining six were wavering. Some found it interesting, and some frustrating with no resolutions. No-one wants a job as a psychoanalyst. |

A book where you either enjoyed the depths of knowledge, or you thought it was a waste of time. Polarising. Good discussion, lots of case studies and reminiscences of members and friends. Loved stories. |

Most of us found the book "bizarre", and didn't enjoy the stories behind the behavioural problems. Some interest in the author's comments, particularly about other therapists! |

Alas - the most of the group was really unenthusiastic about The Incurable Romantic - the subject matter and style just did not grab them. But one at least (me!) thought it wonderful to have such insight into the complexity of human psychology written in a novelistic style. I found Tallis's subject matter - the craziness of love and its aberrations - intriguing and moving even if there is often no cure for the problems. Maybe if you enjoyed Oliver Sacks you'd enjoy Frank Tallis. I would have given this book 5 stars. |

Our group is divided. Some felt it unsatisfactory as there were no good outcomes in his work with all the people involved, as indicated by the title. Others found it absorbing and enlightening. They also appreciated the theories and ideas he elaborates on. Excellent discussion ( quite lively, in fact!) of the good, thought-provoking questions. |
