As a ‘mature’ group of readers we aren’t the target audience, however we commend the author on her exploration of themes that stem from the challenges of being an outlier in a country that is not ‘home’. Ahmed uses the motif of the camera lens to capture how Maya finds her security and safety as she navigates the two worlds she lives in. Definitely offered a platform to discuss migration and the struggles migrants face. |

This was read and enjoyed by all but one of our group. We agreed that the ideal demographic was younger than us, but nevertheless it stimulated an interesting discussion about 'outsiders' (real or perceived), immigration, refugees and acculturation. |

Many of us thought this was a little unrealistic, and many of us thought it was going to be an autobiography and were disappointed that it was more like a teen romance. Some good points about discrimination were raised however. We actually enjoyed the intercalary part of the story the most, and would have liked more detail there. |
