Our group found this book well worth reading and it generated a good discussion as we shared stories of significant memories and memory losses. The book was easy to read with the neuroscience explained in terms that were easy to understand and with interesting anecdotes. Overall we, as ageing women, found the book encouraging and several said they would recommend it to others. |

Most enjoyed this book, and our get together certainly produced a lot of laughs. it needed concentration ( good) and was a little repetitive - probably for good reason! |

Many felt that it was a great book to read in our later years..!! We agreed that it was 'light' even though the topic is 'heavy'. Genova's explanations are in plain English making it easy to understand, enjoyable and useful. Most found it relatable and felt reassured by the 'memory loss' explanations we all feel in our advancing yrs! The 'medics' in our group would have liked a deeper explanation and we all agreed that diagrams would have been helpful. The book takes the reader by the hand and walks them through it. |

Most of the group found this book difficult to get into, however those who did read it found it interesting and well-written with good anecdotes they could relate to. We thought it would be an interesting professional development book for education, learning, or people interested in brain research. |

We discussed the positives, including the reassurances, about remembering and forgetting, gained from the book. Some members had reservations about the limited depth and the all-American examples. |

A practical help book with ideas for minimising instances of "forgetting" when we haven't actually registered the information first. With so many of us having experience of dementia, it was an easy read with clear analysis of different types of memory concerns. Most of our group felt they had learnt and understood far more by reading this book. |

We all found this book reassuring in confirming that those "senior moments" were not a forerunner to dementia. We had a wonderful discussion about our memories and the differing memories of the same events of our siblings. We found the style somewhat grating, lots of repetition, and examples used all American of a 50+ year old woman. |

The group as a whole found this book very interesting and we all learned something - it's a hot topic at the moment although not a real "holiday read". The TED talk added to understanding and revealed even more of the author's personality. |

A very accessible read. Genova writes clearly using amusing, everyday examples to illustrate her points, and neuroscience becomes easy to follow in her hands. Enjoyed by the group and led to entertaining discussions, largely about memory. |

Good discussion after reading this book. Format appealed as did topic. A fairly easy read, not especially academic. Darryl Sherwood's notes were especially good. |

Members felt relief that their forgetfulness was normal! We all vowed to pay attention to where we park our car and leave our glasses! Book was well received by everyone and we felt we had learned a lot about memory. Well pitched for our understanding. |

3 thought the book very informative. The other 7 of us found it very repetitive and felt it could have been written as a pamphlet. It did create a good discussion though as we are older! |

All found the book interesting and informative. To discover how the memory works, the different types of memory, and how we might improve it and prevent its loss, has to be useful! In fact it changes one's attitude to the business of remembering... Very good notes. |
