Description: Apart from thousands of honeybees for company, Alice Holtzman is mired in loneliness having been unexpectedly widowed and not yet ready to move on. Light but likable! A pleasant and gentle read, with some delightful and engaging characters, and fascinating connections to bee-keeping. Well-written, but perhaps a bit of a 'Pollyanna' ending, given the many important themes within the story. That said it was a chance to to escape from a relentless diet of depressing news in the real world.

Enjoyable and interesting - we all learned a lot about bees and their life cycle. Wonderful portrayal of three diverse characters, beautifully interwoven, and using the bees as the common thread.

Much discussion about the wonderful information on bee keeping and the life of bees. We all learnt a lot and all were fascinated - the writer portrayed this aspect very well. Good characters, and much discussion about friendships and love and trust. Whilst overall not outstanding, we all enjoyed it.

Overall everyone enjoyed this book. Described as an easy light read, some felt that the characters could have been fleshed out more and some of the story line a bit contrived but overall an enjoyable read. Insights into bee hives and bees interesting.

All enjoyed this light, well-written read. The three main characters were believable - all lost souls who became friends and were able to move forward. Felt it could have been developed as a work of eco fiction. Prompted much discussion about bees and we wanted to learn more about them.

A delightful book, nice story and an easy read. We enjoyed the link to bee keeping and bee behaviour at each chapter heading. The development of the characters and the way they overcame their individual obstacles was woven into the story well. The importance of bees and the effects of chemicals in our environment was effectively illustrated. Members would be keen to read more of her work.

Mixed views from not gritty enough to pleasant reading. Those of us who liked it described the book as a gentle read. Those who did not like the book were looking for some action.

We all loved the book. Soft, gentle story of overcoming grief. Just felt the ending was a bit "unfinished".

Popular read with our book. Plot a little 'too good to be true' but well-written. An easy, feel-good read.

A moving, heartwarming read, although the ending seemed to be ineffectual. Generally it was surprisingly enjoyed. We loved the 'quotes' at the beginning of each chapter, plus the life cycle of the bees. Great information.

We all loved this book - it was good to see how everyone tied in together and the bee facts were great. We all learnt a lot about bees! The only complaint would be that it all ended up happily ever after and life it not generally like that, but that aside, we all enjoyed the story. Easy read and great discussion as always.

Members enjoyed the book overall - learned about bees, and the characters were believable. Felt it all tied up too perfectly at the end - too much said. Easy summer read.

'Music of Bees' shows great insight into the needs of all age groups to be accepted and have a sense of belonging in order to stay emotionally well. Everyone enjoyed this book and learnt a lot about bees, giving renewed interest and concern about their environment.

We all enjoyed this book. It was interesting on the subject of bees - though some of us took no notice of those parts - and the characterisation of lonely people who find comfort and life-purpose through looking after bees made for enjoyable reading.
