Easy read, although hard to get into for some. Heartbreaking, and a bit too close to home. |

Our group loved the book even if the subject was upsetting. We had a great discussion about all aspects and how we would react if we were faced with them. It was very well-written with strong believable characters. |

In our all-male group our retired Judge and practising clinical psychologist confirmed that the legal and trauma aspects of this book are true to the reality of which they have had plenty of experience. The book received average scores mostly because the subject was rather depressing with little relief. We noted that ordinary life is not literature; it is great authors who make it so. This book provides a two-dimensional portrait of normal people going through very challenging events. There were several aspects of the story that could have been developed to give more of a third dimension. |

One Split Second is a very apt title for this book. It takes one split second for trauma to happen but a lot longer to live through the experience as outlined in this novel. A very honest situation, true to life and which could happen to anyone. There was great discussion on trauma and the effects on family members and friends. |

We enjoyed the style of writing - it is a confronting subject but we can see how 'One Split Second' can change so many lives. This is the 2nd book from this author that we have read, and we enjoyed both. |

Clever well-written, thought provoking book. Unflinchingly raw, gutsy, strong, authentic and uncomfortable description of the grief process and the way it is different for everybody. A fair portrayal of how the accident affected everybody differently, and there was no clear right or wrong as everyone deserved empathy. The short sharp sentences created tension, and we were all hooked because we wanted to solve the mystery on the circumstances that caused the accident. Covered many topics - grief, organ donation, restorative justice, survivor guilt, forgiveness, the fragility of friendships. |

We all enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and a real page turner. Our readers felt very drawn in to all the emotions and thought a great insight into grief, and the way everyone is affected differently. Thought the author had a real understanding. The organ donor input was educational. We felt very connected to the characters. Our readers thought the reconciliation between Fran and Harry was so good. We liked the fact that it was told from many different points of view. We would recommend it, and some of our group are already reading other books from this author. |

Great book to kick off our book club. As young mums we found some bits quite confronting, but overall a good read. The story had many layers to it and really made us think about consequences of chain reactions/ one split second events in our own lives. |

A very well-written book!! This could happen to any one of us with teenage/young adults, going out and about with their friends - every parent's nightmare is to lose a child, or have them injured due to 'one split second' of inattention while driving a car. Every teenager/parent should read this book. |

An easy read for a gloomy winter weekend, leaving us with much to discuss. The group was mostly very positive about the plot and characterisations. One person felt she couldn't read it at all, another that it was probably suitable for young adults - however many of our grandchildren, their parents and we "seniors" are all likely to be confronted with some of these issues at some stage of our lives. |

General agreement that this book was well-written and thought provoking. Short chapters and sentences made it easy to read. Wide ranging experiences of characters and reactions to grief. All group members are organ donors. |

A harrowing start to this story. The author gets your attention from the first page, and you identified and felt empathy with all the families. The questions were very helpful enabling us all to discuss our feelings about very difficult decisions that had to be made. |

Everyone seemed to enjoy reading the book in spite of the subject matter - close to home for us in Timaru, where 4 young men were killed in a five person crash here last year. Multiple narrative viewpoints helped. Not a huge discussion about many aspects of the book, but we touched on organ donation. |

All agreed that it was such a terrible scenario to write a novel about, but it really depicted the range of grief and impacts on a group of people, families and friends. Written with so much compassion. This book is one that generated so much discussion as every one of us knows someone who has experienced a traumatic situation like this. We highly recommend this. |
