Description: When Toufah won a national competition that promised a full scholarship to any university in the world, it was the first step to fulfilling her dreams. But it turned into a nightmare when she was raped by the president of her West African country, The Gambia. An interesting read, although the 'voice' of 'Toufah' is uneven throughout. - probably due to the ghost writing. What is most astounding is that her story is so recent.

Eye-opening on many fronts - especially the lot of women in African countries. Powerful.

Thank goodness there are strong women who are able to stand up for themselves and therefore others. Well-written. Brought up by strong females - mother and grandmother. Toufah eventually found the strength to tell her story and so became the voice of women in her male dominated country.

An easy to read book, despite being a difficult topic. Few of us knew much about Gambia, and there was discussion about differences and similarities between our cultures, and their handling/ responses to sexual assault.

Absolutely wonderful. An amazing story of Toufah - her resilience, courage, and difficult road to finally having the courage to say the truth, put her name to it, and start a movement.

'Current' with an interesting twist. The group wondered what had happened to the President in respect to the court case. We liked the narrative - very relatable. We could hear her voice and were impressed by her courage at such a young age. We heard her story, rather than the details of culture and daily life.

A compelling story of a courageous, determined young woman. An interesting insight into the challenges for a refugee.

A disturbing topic, well presented, inspiring, thoughtful and full of hope. Well worth the read.
