Description:

Joel Thompson and Theo Hern have history ... once childhood friends, they have been estranged since an accident that confined Alice, Theo's sister, to a wheelchair.
Recalling a pact they made to walk the Thames Path to London when they turned thirty, Joel persuades Theo to don his walking shoes. Along the 184 miles of the trek, their lives are laid bare, exposing the secrets and lies that have landed them where they are today: one a successful television comedy writer hiding a secret and the other living a lie and about to be evicted from his parents' shed.
Written with heart and humour, this is a poignant story of the power of friendship, the importance of honesty and the unexpected benefits of a good long walk.

Overall, we enjoyed it. An easy read, light even though some heavy content in there. |

All enjoyed the book - the writing and characterisation very good and believable. Started as a light read but many dark moments. The twist at the end was unexpected and sad. The theme of strong deep friendships split by a terrible event was well covered. The male humour and introspective thoughts seemed well managed. |

We all enjoyed this book and could relate to the relationship of Theo and Joel as teenagers, then as adult males. |

Well received - this is the first book in a long while that every member of the group read and finished. |

The first point raised in our discussion was the swearing. Some of us gave up reading after "enough" and skipped to the end. One member loved the story and scored it 4.5, others barely a 3. Overall, after many discussion points, we agreed it showed a different twist to life and how we shouldn't assume anything. |
