Description: It would be easy to underestimate Molly Gray. As a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel, she unashamedly strives to return things to a 'state of perfection'. Weaving an enjoyable morality tale through a classic whodunnit, this is an intriguing contemporary mystery with a very distinctive protagonist.

Excellent book. Authentic characters. 7/8 enjoyed the book thoroughly, finding it very well-written and easy to read. Full of surprises. Some members have read the sequel from the library already because they liked it so much.

A delightful book. A great character study of, yes, possibly a 'neuro divergent' person - one that we, hopefully, will have come to appreciate when we meet a 'Molly' in real life.

All enjoyed it very much. Different opinions on where the story was set - England or USA. Also what ethnicity Molly and Mr Preston were. A good read.

'The Maid' was well received, with Molly's characterisation particularly noted, along with the "subjective truth". Interesting ending.

This book was not overly enjoyed by our bookclub. A weak narrative. Would probably make a better movie.

Our group found the story to be intriguing, interesting, and challenging. We all enjoyed it, which is reflected in our high score. Lightweight, but fun.

We all really enjoyed this book. Obvious from the beginning that Molly was neuro-divergent and her actions/thoughts probably not helped by her grandmother and her sayings. A good murder mystery with some twists and turns in relationships of the characters. A very easy read.

Variation of opinions. Easy to read, with themes making the detective/Agatha Christie style, relevant and thought provoking. Some thought it a bit like other stories.

Thought the story was good but the character descriptions were lazy, and relied on cliches and generalisations.

This book had a 100% enjoyment factor for all members. We loved the main character, and her personality traits were recognised by some members.

About half our group realised that Molly (the maid) was on the autism spectrum, and read the novel in that context. Everyone enjoyed it as a good read, a 'whodunnit', or a murder mystery, and the happy final resolution pleased everyone.

Thoroughly enjoyed by all readers. Molly the Maid in first person was very thorough in telling her story. Excellent descriptive writing and a great plot. We didn't think it was demeaning to those on the Asperger's spectrum.
