Fast paced and held your interest from the first few pages. What would you do to keep your child safe? That's a good question and definitely made one think. A difficult time to live in Belfast and interesting to see that things don't change overnight - nearly 20 years on the hate war still there. Good characters, although the protagonist was a bit too controlling, but the story wouldn't have been as good if she didn't behave as she did. A good thriller. |

Good storyline, although some parts a little unrealistic. Fast paced and hard to put down. |

We struggled to empathise with the main character and became frustrated with her. Everyone read to the end but not top of our list. |

All of us saw this book as a fast read and found it interesting to read about the "troubles" in Northern Ireland. Other adjectives used in the discussion included "formulaic/far-fetched/unbelievable," and some members thought the writing was rather lazy. (Note - there are quite a few books with the title "The Good Mother," and one member asked, "What is a good mother?" This provoked some discussion!) |

Everyone really enjoyed this book and once they got into it could not put it down. The mix of Politics, Ethics and Suspense made it a great read. The Title is more of a question than anything! |
