Description: By undertaking a successful surrogate pregnancy, Maggie Fisher ensures a better future for her husband and child, while helping create a family for dads Chip and Donovan Rigsdale. When twins Kai and Teddy are handed over, that should be the end of that, but a DNA test a decade later reveals some surprising results ... and that's when things get messy.

Narrated alternately by Maggie and Donovan, this suspenseful, believable story with its convincing characters cuts to the core of what makes a parent, and what makes a family.

For the first time ever, every person in our club enjoyed this book. It engendered some very philosophical and moral conversations about "what makes up a family?", "nature vs nurture" etc.

A topical subject and very relevant to today's lifestyle choices, but not to everyone's taste. Interesting discussion.

Good insight into surrogacy. Good discussion topics about what we would do in this situation.

Very small meeting but interesting discussion, given the themes. We all enjoyed the book but opinions varied as to what we would do in the mother's place. The pull of the child you have carried would be so strong, yet the effect on all others in the scenario could be devastating. Not a decision we would like to have to make.

A lot of discussion. Well-written, easy to read and understand. The effect of mental health issues on family relationships and the development of children is presented to readers. Surrogacy became complex in this story - Maggie thought she had control but science and life are not always as expected.

This is the perfect book for a book discussion group - many and varied opinions. So many avenues to explore. Interestingly though, the writing style and the depth of the characters ( or lack thereof) were scored poorly by the members.

Great subject, with N.Z. looking at these laws at the moment. One dimensional characters however, not 'fleshed out' enough, and the language didn't change between characters.
