Both Olivia McAfee and Ava Campanello end up in Adams, New Hampshire to escape family violence, but when their respective children, Asher and Lily, meet at school and fall in love, the trauma is not over: Lily is found dead, Asher is charged with her murder and in the trial that follows, everyone's secrets will be exposed.
Narrated alternately by Olivia and Lily, this is a thoroughly researched story that juggles a riveting courtroom drama, the art of beekeeping and issues around gender conformity, identity and domestic abuse.

Most felt it was too long. We learnt about bees, but that aspect felt contrived. Jumping backwards and forwards in time was sometimes annoying. |

Told through dual perspectives, 'Mad Honey' blends courtroom drama, family secrets, and coming-of-age themes into a thought-provoking page-turner. The group found it engaging, with an unexpected twist and emotional depth. Opinions were mixed on the plot pacing and character choices, but the layered storytelling sparked meaningful discussion. The collaboration between the two authors added authenticity to the characters' voices, bringing extra nuance to the narrative. Overall, a solid read that led to great conversations and varied reactions. |

Lots of interesting discussion about sex and gender. Mixed feelings about the book, but well-told characterisation and story. |

Easy read, however didn't deliver the usual twist at the end of the story. Jodi Picoult's novels often leave one feeling like the wind has been taken out of your sails and are often unpredictable. This book did not have the same impact. Good book, lacks punch at the end. |

Loved the book, none of us saw the twist coming. No guessing in this book, a surprise right to the end. |

People enjoyed the pacey story, but some found it too formulaic. People appreciated the detail on LGBQT and the detail in the court case. |

A very well-received book by all in our group. An in-depth discussion ensued re domestic abuse and gender issues. All agreed it was another great book by Jodi Picoult, albeit a clever collaboration. |
