Description: Emma Swann is on the home stretch to becoming a surgeon, but the year she is about to embark on as a registrar will test her to the nth degree. There will be little sleep and little support to underpin her immersion in the prestigious Mount hospital training programme. Bullying and humiliation will be daily fare, but the lofty goal of her patients' wellbeing must prevail.

Portraying the good, the bad and the ugly of the medical establishment, this is an engrossing and gritty depiction of an aspiring medical professional penned by an experienced Australian surgeon.

We had a great discussion on this book - it highlights so many of the issues we keep hearing about in our health system, and which many members were able to relate to. Most enjoyed it and thought the experiences of the author being written as a novel, worked well. Several members felt it was too negative, and a couple did not enjoy/rate it highly and found it disappointing.

Cathartic for the author to write this novel. The issues are very much alive. Everyone agreed it was very realistic of current hospitals.
