Title: Someone Else's Shoes
Authors: Moyes, Jojo
Genre: Fiction
Pages: 422
Year: 2023
Language: English
Description: If it wasn't for the mix-up over gym bags, Sam and Nisha would never have crossed paths. Sam is a suburban housewife balancing the woes of the world on her shoulders while Nisha is the wife of a very wealthy man, until suddenly, she isn't. Now all that stands between her and total desperation is a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes... shoes that were in the gym bag... shoes that her soon-to-be ex-husband will do anything to get hold of.

It is the sisterhood to the rescue, transforming their lives and ensuring that this story of friendship and starting over, is as satisfying as it is entertaining.

Fast-paced, entertaining, cleverly written and with lots of humour. Most members of our group liked this book and found it an enjoyable change from more challenging books. We had an interesting discussion, not just about the book, but about many of the issues that affect women - at every age and stage.

Everyone finished the book and thought it was a good light read to kick off our new book club. We thought the concept was good (around people judging others based on appearance) but then became a bit fairytale-ish and unrealistic / farfetched from midway through. Some also thought it was a bit 'cheesy' and formulaic. It was portrayed as having strong women characters, but we didn't really think that was the case, with most characters being quite 'black and white' with little background or layers as to why they were as they were.

Interesting story of women supporting each other through difficult times. Lots of issues were brought up, some were surprised at the depth of these for a Jojo Moyes book.

'Someone Else's Shoes' was an easy read with a happy ending. We considered it a lightweight book and quite formulaic. One member read the book on a long haul flight and enjoyed it. We are a long established group and considered that the issues in it might have been enjoyed more by those 30 years younger.

While we weren't convinced by some of the plot twists and activities, we were very entertained by this book. It did lead to a much wider discussion about women's place in business and the world.

Really enjoyed the story, very women focused and empowering. Showing the importance of 'stepping out' of your boundaries and seeking support and friendship.

Slow start, worth persevering. Well developed characters. The theme of women supporting women came through the whole book. Loved the pun of the title as it related to living in other people's shoes.
