| Description: | At seventeen, Victoria Nash is already shackled to a life running the household and peach orchard for her troubled family, but a chance encounter with Wilson Moon promises both love and danger. Wil is Native American and in 1940's Colorado, bigotry is alive and well, and there will be no fairytale ending.
Eloquent, poignant and steeped in the rugged landscapes of the Blue Mesa Reservoir, this is a powerful coming-of-age story of love, courage and sacrifice.

All felt Shelley Read's description of the mountainous landscape surrounding the small town of Iola on the banks of the Gunnison River in Colorado was evocative. The eventual demise of Iola to make way for the Blue Mesa Dam and Reservoir reminded members of the fate of the old town of Cromwell when the Clutha Dam was constructed and Lake Dunstan was formed. The Group thought the character development was impressive, and members noted the tenacity and courage of the protagonist as she navigated her journey through very challenging situations, making this book a real page turner!

Half of our members loved the book and couldn't put it down - the other half found it a bit far fetched. But all agreed there were lovely descriptions of nature.

This book tells a story of much loss and sadness, redeemed by the beauty of life and nature.

This was rated as one of our best reads so far. Much discussion about the characters, good and bad, how we would react to finding a baby in our cars (!!), the context of the soft/sweet peaches in such a harsh reality, the jarring ending. The naive love of an isolated girl for the first boy who shows her interest but at such a cost. Recommended.
