Description:

If it is possible to wake up dead, then that is what has happened to murdered photojournalist Maali Almeida. It's 1990, and he has arrived in the bureaucratic 'In-Between', and before he can go to The Light, he has seven days to decide what he wants to do with his afterlife. In the meantime, he needs to make sense of what has happened and 'nudge' his friends to retrieve and disperse his photos that will expose the true story of the Sri Lankan Civil War.
Unique and absorbing, this satirical story of Maali's plight and Sri Lanka's misery is peppered with grim humour, but is not for the faint-hearted.

Two of our group really liked this book, although felt it took a long time to get into. The rest of the group found it difficult to get past the early 'gruesome' descriptions and strong visual images. Cleverly written. |

Most members enjoyed this unique story, particularly the premise of a ghost trying to find out who killed him and why, during his first 7 moons 'on the other side'. However, it did go on a bit long. |

A reduced number at our meeting, but all were impressed with this book, from amazement to awe. Also a bit of a history lesson, and a very relevant theme in today's wars. |
