Addictive, suspenseful, couldn't put it down. No clues as to 'whodunnit'. Believable characters who were relatable. A great summer read and very topical...

Okay for a 'summer read' - but overall we found the characters flat and plot rather contrived. The femininity of the titular 'Mother' seems particularly unconvincing in parts. Having said this, we thought we'd still quite enjoy watching this as a Netflix drama, possibly with Florence Pugh or Jessie Buckley as 'the mother' and any one of the Hemsworth brothers as the murdered husband!

Everyone enjoyed it - good discussion around the difference between mystery, thriller, suspense... No-one guessed the ending.

Everyone read this, and some members are keen to read more from this author. We all enjoyed it - a fast read with engaging characters, great momentum, and a few twists. Elements of the ending did challenge our "willing" suspension of disbelief a little, but it was fitting within the context of the story...

A great read - wonderful plot and an easier read in between more in depth books.

Our group didn't really enjoy the book. They thought it was obviously a book written by a man in the 'voice' of a woman. Some of the logic was challenging.

All enjoyed this book - well-written, believable characters and gripping plot. Amazed at how well the male author wrote from a female's perspective. Only minor criticisms were that the ending was overly dramatic and somewhat unconvincing. Apart from that, we all plan to read more books by this author.

We were all surprised by how enjoyable and engaging we found the book, as 'thriller' is not a genre we had delved into. Easy to read, fast paced and the twists to keep us guessing.

All enjoyed the book. Contained all the criteria for a very good thriller but was also very layered.

Everyone finished the book, and there was a variety of views. Some thought it was a good read and kept you guessing right to the end. Others thought it was done a bit to a formula and the ending was weak.

A fast read - everyone needed to get to the end - quickly! Not completely credible however, but a gripping atmospheric first chapter.
