Description:
|
Former Iraqi interpreter Arman Bajalan is adjusting to his new life in the US after the Iraq War, when he finds a body on a beach with links to his past, a sure sign that those who want his testimony silenced, have him in their sights. Coming to his aid are detectives Catherine Wheel and Lamar Adams, along with a journalist investigating a private military contractor going after a multi-billion-dollar government deal. Depicting the collateral damage of war, this is a complex and disturbing thriller, fuelled by greed and power, and presented in a taut plot full of surprises.

A light summer entertainer. Felt a little as if it had been written for a TV show, with some poor dialogue. Lots of twists. |

The group likes a good 'who-dunnit'. This was well-written and held the reader until the end. |

Our group found it to be a 'good read". It was our first thriller/mystery and we found it to be the sort of book you just wanted to keep on reading. We enjoyed the author's descriptive and rich language. The contractors appeared ruthless and violent and as though they would do anything for money. This led to discussion of governments use of contract companies. The author uses a lot of acronyms, Americanisms and slang (civilian, police and military) which can make the reading difficult. One of our members investigated the meaning of many of these and outlined a few of the interesting ones to the group. |

Interesting and readable, with some clever and witty asides. Easy to read each chapter as a stand alone piece. Lacked an overarching conclusion. |

Too many acronyms made it heavy going. We had a great discussion. Most of us struggled with it, but found it more interesting when it all started to come together. We thought trying to defend one man cost a lot of lives but if they hadn't gone after the contractor his loss would have been for nothing. |
