An insightful book. There could have been more structure to the second part of the book. We agreed it is not helpful to try to assign percentage of Maori heritage to people who identify as Maori. We acknowledged that we, as Pakeha, are not asked questions of the same kind. We enjoyed the first part of the book most.

Mixed reaction with the feeling that the first half was more gripping than the second half. A bit repetitive - is it a realistic ending?

This book has wide scope, is timely, and stimulated detailed discussion about being Pakeha and bicultural history. A thoughtful narration through the decades.

Plenty of historical facts, many unknown to most of us. We all appreciated being better informed by having read this. We gained a more positive outlook of the NZ ahead for future generations.
