Soldiering on, that's all the mother in this powerful story can do... Narrated through an intense and raw internal monologue directed to her young son, this is the bleakly comic unravelling and recalibrating of a first-time mother. The emotional volatility and sheer exhaustion of having a child, and the unwelcome realisation that the patriarchy is still alive and well; it's all captured in this bittersweet commentary on early motherhood which is as profound as it is provocative.

We liked the way it was written/ the language used, but some who hadn't had babies found it hard to identify with. We had mixed feelings about the ending but we enjoyed our discussions. |
