Description: If you asked Evan Keogh had he always wanted to be a professional footballer, the answer would be an emphatic 'no', but here he is, discreetly gay, and charged along with his friend and fellow sportsman Robbie, with the sexual assault of a young woman. Living in London, Evan is a long way from his childhood on a small island off the coast of Ireland, and a long way from understanding the man he has become ... but he is ready to try. Compelling and emotionally charged, this is a thought-provoking morality tale of toxic masculinity and the darker side of power and privilege.

Earth provoked one of our longest discussions, it was a divisive book. While everyone enjoyed the author's writing style and thought it was a quick read, the content was challenging and definitely not enjoyed by two of our members. In contrast, two read it twice, and felt there was so much in such a short book that it merited a closer read.

Well-written and a fast read, but a "bleak story", although "interesting to see how some people live". Most people landed on the "bleak" side.

We loved this book - he packs so much into a small book. Difficult material but the quality of the writing made up for it.

All members felt that this book was extremely well-written and made us think about some difficult issues that we may not have been previously exposed to. Some found the subject matter quite confronting and a bit distressing.

Our group was quite shocked by the unlikeable people doing shocking things. We were entertained and challenged. The writing was wonderful and the characters were the product of contexts where adulation was sought and damaging father relationships left the main characters to become criminals.
