Description:

Kierkegaard the philosopher was on to something with his ideas about the benefits of walking, and Marnie Walsh and Michael Bradshaw can attest to this. Setting out on the Coast-to-Coast Walk from Cumbria to Yorkshire, these two lonely and stubborn people, both recovering from previous relationships, tramp through the mud and rain and beauty of the English countryside into the possibility of ... friendship. With its perfect combination of humour and pathos, this is a delightful story of second chances, told through alternating viewpoints and seasoned with great dialogue.

Delightful read. Great uplifting start to the year. Didn't want to put it down, as it was heartwarming and joyous. An easy read with well drawn characters. P.S. The book cover's photo of the author is rather gorgeous.... |

Most members enjoyed the book. All thought it was well-written. We enjoyed the humour. More description of the scenery and history of the areas would have been appreciated. |

The sentences were well-written. It was a light read with some humour and moments of growth for the central characters. The awkwardness of these central characters was well portrayed; it is difficult to socialise after a relationship break-up. The plot was very predictable. The characters were shallow. The book failed to deliver on its potential. It did lead to a very interesting discussion about a range of issues such as life in a post-Covid world; the difficulty of face-to-face relationships in a social context; how men tend to struggle to make new friendships. |
