Description: The Denbys of Yorkshire are a happy family – Scott’s a teacher, Livia a probation officer, and there’s the children 13-year-old Heidi and five-year-old Noah. However, when his brother Nicky dies unexpectedly, a grieving Scott seeks answers outside the mainstream, drawn into rabbit holes of misinformation and disinformation that threaten all he holds dear. Plausible, compelling and unsettling, this is a thought-provoking thriller uncovering the manipulation and menace of online influencers, and just how far we will go to protect those we love.

Comments from BDS Reviewers:

"Charity Norman is a great storyteller, taking a contemporary issue and making it very real"

"She creates a drama, or a crisis and takes you on a journey to explore "What would you have done?".

"Livia is a probation officer and her work becomes an interesting subplot. You don't often read from the probation officer's viewpoint - usually from the offender's".

"Home Truths explores how easy it is for a vulnerable person to be caught by online influencers and conspiracy theorists, and how difficult it is to break free".

"It is worth thinking about what support there is for people like Scott, and if he would have benefitted from counselling had he been prepared to accept it".

"I found the first half of the book challenging because Scott's behaviour was anathema to me and I just got annoyed with him. In hindsight this is possibly a sign of persuasive writing".

"This is a novel told from one perspective and will not appeal to anti vaxxers. If this is the elephant in the room at your bookclub, don't choose this one".

A very modern and relevant read, highlighting the dangers of the internet, conspiracy theories etc. This book provoked some very lively discussion. Overall, the group enjoyed this book.
