First question answered, more to follow … Gaza, Ukraine, the Queen’s death, the King’s coronation – take your pick – if it happened between 2022 and 2024, then as Newshub’s European correspondent, Lisette was the one telling us the stories. With passing reference to her childhood in Waikato and Broadcasting school in Christchurch, this energetic, entertaining memoir, ‘the confessions of an accidental war correspondent’, focuses on the global headlines, revealing life behind the camera.
Comments from BDS Reviewers:"Great writing style - stories with current relevance, known to many through her NewsRoom television appearances".
"This is an interesting diary of a reporter experiencing some of the important moments in the very recent history of Europe".
"If you want to read about how a TV reporter goes about getting into and out of the tightest hotspots of war zones etc, then this could be the book for you".
"This book is a real page-turner. It is a fascinating account of a lifestyle we don't see, and yet we see these people on the TV every day, reporting their stories".
"She made me think about the news and our relationship with it - often people need to die or experience trauma for there to be 'news' for us to watch over dinner".
"Don't expect to get any great revelations about these events exposed".

We found the book really interesting. An insight to the life of a journalist on overseas assignments. She was brave, and had a real affinity with Ukraine. Her youth came through in her writing. Showed a need to be strong, but also the ability to get on with people, apparent in her interviews and relationships with those she worked with. A good book. |

So fast-paced, we wondered how the author survived the non-stop action as a Europe correspondent. Those familiar with her TV3 reports could hear her voice as they read. |

A good book about an interesting person - speaks for itself, rather than generating discussion. |
